Herzog & de Meuron

Christine Binswanger joined Herzog & de Meuron in 1991, became Partner in 1994, and has been Senior Partner since 2009. She is responsible for a wide range of projects across various countries and typologies. She has been in charge of a number of museum projects, including the expansion of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and the Pérez Art Museum in Miami, USA; and the extension of the Musée Unterlinden in Colmar, France. The REHAB Basel, Clinic for Neurorehabilitation and Paraplegiology in Basel, Switzerland, and the new Kinderspital Zürich, Switzerland are examples of several hospital projects she leads. In the corporate world, she was in charge of the new Headquarters of Lombard Odier in Geneva, while in the field of education she is highly involved in the design of the Forum Building of the University in Zürich. Her experience in urban planning includes significant transformation projects in Lyon, France, and Burgos, Spain, as well as large urban renewal projects in Switzerland, notably the Dreispitz area of Basel and Sion Ronquoz. Housing projects she has led include the Rue des Suisses Apartment Buildings in Paris, France, and the Zellwegerpark in Uster, Switzerland. She was also in charge of the 1111 Lincoln Road project, a mixed-use structure with parking, retail, dining, and a private residence in Miami Beach, USA, which received the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize in 2014.

Alongside project responsibilities, Christine leads a team invested in knowledge transfer and serves on Herzog & de Meuron’s Strategic Board. She regularly participates in juries and selection committees and holds lectures in both academic and cultural institutions.

Christine, along with former Herzog & de Meuron Partner Harry Gugger, received the Prix Meret Oppenheim in 2004, awarded by the Swiss Federal Art Commission, in recognition of their active leadership in the architecture and art community. She studied architecture at the ETH Zurich from 1984 to 1990.
