Herzog & de Meuron has been present in Paris for over four decades. Our first project, a contribution to the exhibition ‘L’architecture est un jeu … magnifique’ at the Centre Georges Pompidou in 1985, was also our first architectural exhibition; Ten years later, the Pompidou exhibited ‘Herzog & de Meuron, une exposition, conceived by Rémy Zaugg’. In 1996 we won our first competition in Paris for Rue des Suisses Apartment Buildings; Completed in 2000, it became known for its innovative horizontal massing with a strong connection to nature and the outdoors – still an anomaly in the city. Currently, the Tour Triangle, our most recent work in Paris, is nearing completion in the 15th arrondissement.
Beyond the capital, we have completed several large-scale projects in France, encompassing urban development, architecture and museography. These include the 42,000-seat Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux; urban planning for Lyon La Confluence, in addition to the pilot project Îlot A3; and the extension of the Musée Unterlinden in Colmar. Our latest project is the Bélair-Monange winery in Saint-Émilion, the fifth joint project within a long-standing collaboration between a celebrated Bordeaux wine making family and Herzog & de Meuron.
Our studio in Paris ensures strategic partnerships with planners, close contact with our clients, onsite presence throughout the development and execution of projects, and reflects our long-term commitment to France as a whole. Our Paris team embodies Herzog & de Meuron’s culture, work ethic, and professionalism. They are well-versed in regional planning regulations and construction methodologies and are involved from initial contact with all stakeholders to the handover of a finished project.
