Herzog & de Meuron

The Atelier is a workshop where research and development happens, a facility to test and experiment with materials and ideas to a highly refined level. It is not only an incubator for H&dM Objects, but also an important place for developing architectural projects and exhibition designs.

The Atelier is located at Dreispitz and is connected to the Kabinett, sharing the same ideals of documenting thought and cross collaboration. Mockups, models and prototypes are piled high on open shelving, while the floor space arrangement constantly adapts to facilitate different functions or projects.

The space is equipped with all the machinery, both traditional and state of the art, needed to build professional prototypes. The largest tool is the 5 Axis CNC milling machine, capable of precisely cutting and shaping materials from multiple angles and orientations, allowing for intricate and complex machining operations. The Atelier also has traditional machinery as well as 3D printers and a lathe.
