ENGELBERG, SWITZERLAND — The Titlis Tower officially opened today during a press event held in the tower’s new restaurant. Local media, project partners, and members of the project team — including Pierre de Meuron, Andreas Fries, and Stephan Weber — attended the inauguration.

The 56-meter-high former antenna tower, originally built in the mid-1980s for telecommunications use, has been transformed into a new visitor destination situated more than 3,000 meters above sea level. The project forms part of the broader redevelopment strategy for Titlis Bergbahnen, integrating infrastructure and visitor facilities within a unified architectural concept.

The existing steel tower structure has been extended with two horizontal glazed volumes and four vertical circulation towers. The new program includes a restaurant, retail spaces, and a public viewing platform. An existing underground tunnel connecting to the mountain station has been retained and integrated directly into the building.

Designed in response to the extreme alpine environment, the project combines steel, concrete, glass, and wood while preserving the visibility of the original structure. At the summit, a 360-degree viewing platform offers panoramic views of the surrounding glacier and mountain landscape.
