UNTERWASSER, SWITZERLAND – Talstation Unterwasser celebrated its topping out last Friday. Our client, Toggenburg Bergbahnen, along with all the design and construction teams, marked the milestone of completing the valley station’s wooden structure. It was mounted and installed from late June to mid-August using prefabricated timber modules. The building is constructed using locally sourced materials by craftspeople from the Toggenburg valley — the timber was sourced from Switzerland and the wooden facade cladding comes from a nearby forest.

This project is the latest in our ongoing collaboration with Toggenburg Bergbahnen. The Talstation Unterwasser is the central access point to the Chäserrugg area both in summer and in winter. From here, visitors take a funicular to Iltios and from there connect to the summit station Chäserrugg (completed in 2015) via cable car.

The project is being realized in collaboration with Studio Noun.
