ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, 04 May 2018 –The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Kinderspital Zürich (KISPI) takes place today, in Zurich-Lengg, on the outskirts of the city. The hospital will be integrated in a campus of healthcare institutions, including the nearby Burghölzli Psychiatric University Clinic. Consisting of the Children’s Hospital and the Building for Laboratory, Teaching, and Research, the project will be situated in a leafy residential district on two plots of neighboring land.
The seven-story research center is a cylindrical building. It will contain seminar rooms, laboratories, student workspaces, and an atrium for audiences of up to 670 people. The Children’s Hospital will supply highly specialized health care – for both inpatient and outpatient care of children and adolescents. It will also house four therapeutic centers: cardiology, oncology, nephrology, and the center for brain injuries, with some 600 workplaces for medical and administrative staff, operation rooms, and a total of 114 rooms for patients. The hospital is a horizontal building with only three floors above ground. Its interior layout resembles a small town with streets, intersections, and squares. Green inner courtyards bring nature and plenty of daylight deep into the building. The new project in Zurich-Lengg will replace the facility in the Hottinger quarter, which has long outgrown its current capacity. Planned completion is in 2022.
