Herzog & de Meuron

In the USA, Herzog & de Meuron have built up the biggest portfolio outside Switzerland. We recognized the potential that the USA held at an early stage in 1998, with Dominus Winery in Napa Valley. Subsequently we established a studio in New York. A studio in San Francisco followed, in order to stay in close touch with our clients across the country.

For the De Young Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park we created various typologies of exhibition spaces accommodating the differences in the museum’s diverse collection, and allowed the park to permeate into the museum. Our design for the Berggruen Institute in Los Angeles provides a research facility straddling the disciplines of science, politics and culture. With UCSF’s Hellen Diller Medical Center in San Francisco, we have the opportunity to further our innovation in the field of healthcare.

Our studio in San Francisco ensures strategic partnerships with planners, close contact with our clients, onsite presence throughout the development and execution of projects, and reflects our long-term commitment to the region. Our San Francisco team embodies Herzog & de Meuron’s culture, work ethic, and professionalism. They are well-versed in US planning regulations and construction methodologies and are involved from initial contact with all stakeholders to the handover of a finished project.
