Herzog & de Meuron

DOHA, QATAR — Qatar Museums has released new renderings and a virtual flythrough video of the future Lusail Museum, revealing fresh details of the building. Located on Al Maha Island, the new museum will house the world’s largest collection of Orientalist paintings, and will be powered by a global think tank, bringing together diverse perspectives, ideas, and outputs. Our master plan integrates diverse yet complementary programs within this setting, evolving into an ecosystem that can adapt and change over time.

“Nothing is given forever; there are areas like these coasts that are more ephemeral, more transformable, something between water and land. Al Maha Island is man-made — a work of land art, actually. In the same way, we wanted the Lusail Museum to be a piece of earth, as if growing out of Al Maha Island. Not just a building, but a world in and of itself, almost like a planet.”
