Associate Studio Director Barcelona
Pep Avilés began his collaboration with Herzog & de Meuron in the early 2000’s, contributing to the Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, Puerto de Santa Cruz, and Cuidad del Flamenco projects. Since 2008, he has been teaching in European and American universities including Barcelona Institute of Architecture, The Cooper Union, Columbia University, Princeton University, and Pennsylvania State University. Alongside his teaching, he pursued his PhD while working on architectural projects in Spain, the US, Chile, and Austria. In 2025, he returned to our office to take on the role of Associate Studio Director of the newly reopened Barcelona office.
Pep studied at the ETSAB Barcelona School of Architecture, receiving a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 2000 and a Master of Architecture degree in 2008; He then continued his studies at Princeton University, receiving his Master of Arts degree in 2009 and his PhD in 2016. He has previously collaborated with both Toyo Ito and David Chipperfield in Barcelona, amongst others, and gained valuable experience as an intern in Barcelona’s City Council.
