Herzog & de Meuron

Michel Frei joined Herzog & de Meuron in 2012 and has been Associate since 2017. He has contributed to various urban masterplans, architectural concept studies and competitions in a leading role. During his first years, he worked on the Roche projects. He led the urbanistic work on the Entwicklungsplan (Development Plan) that has become effective in the meantime and is the basis for several projects, such as Roche Bau 2. Furthermore, Michel co-developed the architecture for the pRED-Center on the Roche Campus and was Project Manager of the Berggruen Institute in Los Angeles. Since 2017, he has been the Project Director of TITLIS 3020 in the central Swiss Alps.

Michel completed a professional apprenticeship as a draughtsman and worked in several offices in Switzerland before taking up studies at ETH Zurich. During his studies, he earned a scholarship for an exchange period at Harvard GSD and was awarded the “Excellence Scholarship and Opportunity Programme” by ETH Zurich. In 2011, Michel earned his Master diploma as an architect at ETH Zurich.
