Herzog & de Meuron

Michael Schmidt joined Herzog & de Meuron in November 2007 and led the planning process of the new fair building hall for the Messe Basel from 2007 until its completion. In 2013 he became an Associate. Among other projects, Michael is responsible for the new Kinderspital Zürich.

At the beginning of his professional career, he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. From 1997, Michael studied architecture at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin, while also working in different architecture offices in Berlin (Germany), San Francisco (USA) and Vienna (Austria). He graduated in 2002. For 5 years, he worked for Berlin architects Barkow Leibinger on a variety of national and international projects from concept until completion.
