BASEL, SWITZERLAND ā€” We are proud to announce the official opening of Rocheā€™s new Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) Center in Basel. This cutting-edge facility is a key component of Rocheā€™s strategic development plan, setting new standards in research infrastructure. The pRED Center features the worldā€™s first multi-story laboratory buildings and is designed with a focus on maximum flexibility and streamlined communication. With the capacity to accommodate up to 1,800 employees, the pRED Center will foster collaboration and drive advancements in pharmaceutical research.

ā€œRoche is an integral part of the surrounding residential neighbourhood in Basel. The main road of Grenzacherstrasse, which runs directly through the Roche campus, no longer divides but is a connector. The street has become a central place in the neighbourhood. Parts of the ground floor of the pRED buildings are now directly accessible from public spaces and various programsā€”such as a demonstration laboratory, a cafĆ©, seating areas with shady treesā€”enliven the surroundings of the life science cluster. The design focuses on flexibility of use and fostering internal communication. Spiral staircases connect three laboratory floors together into research units. An innovative, modular interior concept can be adapted quickly and efficiently, enabling a wide variety of layouts with minimal effortā€”the key to versatility.ā€ ā€“ Pierre de Meuron
