NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — Powerhouse Arts has received an Honor Award in the category of Adaptive Reuse/Historic Preservation as part of the American Institute of Architects New York State (AIANYS) 2023 Design Awards. Completed in collaboration with PBDW Architects, the new facility allows for large-scale art production in a variety of media, including metal, wood, ceramic, textiles, and printmaking — all on the rehabilitated site of the former Central Power Station of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit System. Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit institution based in Gowanus, Brooklyn, New York, established to create a robust platform for art production and employment in the arts.

In addition, earlier this fall the Municipal Art Society of New York announced that Powerhouse Arts received the distinction of Best Urban Amenity as part of the 2023 MASterworks Awards, which recognize the best additions to the city’s built environment completed in 2022.
