547 UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center Forges ahead

San Francisco, CA, USA – Herzog & de Meuron’s project 547 Helen Diller Medical Center has reached a new milestone. The UC Regents Approval held on Wednesday, May 18th voted to approve the full budget, scope and design for the new hospital, transforming its oldest campus in Parnassus Heights in a 30-year plan to continue driving innovation, research and healthcare.

Our team at Herzog & de Meuron is working in collaboration with HDR to realize UCSF’s vision for the hospital for the future to create a ‘Healing Habitat,’ a holistic health care environment that fosters wellness and recovery by combining efficient facilities with human experiences, connected to nature and the local community.

The project for UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center is the latest in a series of evolving hospital projects by Herzog & de Meuron. Its approval comes the same year REHAB Basel celebrates its 20th anniversary. Meanwhile, the University Children’s Hospital in Zurich and the New North Zealand Hospital in Hillerød are both currently under construction, with Basel University Hospital (USB) moving forward after being endorsed by the Basel-Stadt Government in 2020. Continuing this thread of design and healthcare, the New Hospital is forecasted to open its doors in 2030.
