Stefan Marbach is a Senior Partner at Herzog & de Meuron. He has led and realised a number of high profile national and international projects, such as Prada Aoyama and Miu Miu Aoyama in Tokyo, the flagship store for Uniqlo Tokyo, the New Hall for Messe Basel, the Beirut Terraces in Beirut, and several projects for Ricola in Laufen – including the Kräuterzentrum. A particular focus of his work is in the design of stadia, with projects including the National Stadium in Beijing, St Jakob Park in Basel, the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux and Stamford Bridge in London. He has extensive expertise in office buildings, as well as laboratory and research facilities, including Roche Building 1 in Basel, the AstraZeneca Global R&D Centre and Corporate Headquarters in Cambridge, and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology in Moscow. He is currently responsible for the GRID project in Allschwil, which will incorporate laboratories, offices, gastronomy, and space for small businesses.

 

Stefan Marbach first joined Herzog & de Meuron in 1991 after completing his apprenticeship as a draftsman. From 1993 to 1997, he studied architecture at the Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz in Muttenz and at the Royal Institute of Technology KTH in Stockholm. He rejoined Herzog & de Meuron 1997, and was named an Associate in 1999. In 2006, he was promoted to Partner, and has been a Senior Partner since 2009.
