Santiago Espitia Berndt earned his degree in architecture in 2011 at the ETH Zurich, with the ETH-Medal and the Hatt-Bucher fellowship for his independent master study at Studio Basel under Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron. Immediately thereafter, he started to work at Herzog & de Meuron.


Expanding his design ability and knowledge in urban planning from 2011 until 2017 he collaborated on 14 projects of different scales and at different planning phases. He has been involved in the development of numerous large scale international projects such as the Jade residential tower in Miami and the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem. In parallel he has led the design of small-scale housing projects in Switzerland and the United States.
