It’s a wrap – Complete Works 1 to 6

BASEL, SWITZERLAND, 26 October 2020 – Volume 5 of Complete Works is out now! This book covers the span of projects No.207-266 which started in the years 2002-2004. We are delighted that the full series from Volume 1 to Volume 6 is now available, published by Birkhäuser.

The Complete Works document Herzog & de Meuron as it changes in both scale and processes; the volumes are the most accurate source publication closest to the core of our practice. In the first volumes 1-3 (published 1996, 1997, 2000) more analog working methods and processes are predominant, while in the recent volumes of 4-6 (2009, 2018, 2020) our development into digital tools and design technologies emerge.

From images and process materials selected by project teams, our editorial team assembles narratives to highlight specific aspects and give insight into how a project unfolds.

“Holding Volume 5 in my hands, which completes the series of six, I find each of them typical for the family, but they are all a bit different. They are all packed with dense content – texts, sketches, traces of research – each put together seriously. For those who are willing to dive into it, they can discover and find out things. Even myself, who contributed to each project, I tend to discover things I have forgotten about when I go through the book.” – Jacques Herzog
