SHANGHAI, CHINA, 25 September 2015 – Curated by Klaus Biesenbach and Hans Ulrich Obrist, ‘15 Rooms’ is a major live-art exhibition this year presented in Shanghai at the Long Museum West Bund from 25 September to 8 November 2015.
The event includes performative works by a group of 15 international artists, each being staged in an individual space. While this year’s edition is taking place in Shanghai, the geographical location is irrelevant. The anonymous quality of the exhibition design is meant to emphasize the immediate experience of the visitors as they engage with the artworks.
The series of fifteen rooms is divided in two, divided itself by the central structure wall of the Long Museum, which optically vanishes into the overall installation by its mirror casing. The mirrored walls at either end of this street, along with the mirrored doors and the mirrored central structure wall multiply the reading of the fifteen doors in their reflections. The doors are differentiated from one another only by their digitally cut wooden door handles, each of which varies slightly in shape and texture.
