Ricola Kräuterzentrum Inaugurated
LAUFEN, SWITZERLAND, 27 June 2014 – Ricola celebrates the completion of its new Kräuterzentrum. The new herb center is situated like an erratic block in the midst of a landscape dotted with conventional industrial buildings. The distinctive elongated shape reflects the steps involved in the industrial processing of herbs, from drying and cutting to blending and storing. Built largely out of locally sourced earth, it is like a geometrical segment of landscape with its dimensions and archaic impact heightened by the radical choice of material. The prefabricated earth elements were manufactured in a nearby factory out of ingredients extracted from local quarries and mines.

The long-standing relationship between Ricola and Herzog & de Meuron began in the early 1980s: The Kräuterzentrum is the seventh building in a series of significant projects.
